Residents at Brightmore of Wilmington Senior Living Community Help Students Get a Good Start to Their School Year

Brightmore of Wilmington held a school supply drive for students of three Title One schools in the area. Renee Mastrangelo, Life Enrichment Coordinator of Brightmore of Wilmington, shared lists of needed items with all of the independent living residents of the three floors of the senior living community. Mastrangelo added the ‘high stakes’ competitive component as a motivator for participation. “I decided that the floor collecting the most would earn a pizza party for those residents,” she said, adding that at the close of the event, the 2nd floor was the winner. Items were distributed last Monday, and students got a good start to their school year.

Mastrangelo said that the competition was fun and perhaps enhanced the drive’s success. “Next year, I’d like to set this as a competition against our sister community, Carolina Bay at Autumn Hall. We collected a lot but could certainly collect more,” she said.
