It’s Our First Arts & Crafts Show!

The Kempton at Brightmore hosted its first Arts & Crafts Show last week featuring the work of Anne Newbold Perkins, a very talented artist and resident at The Kempton who grew up in Wilmington, NC.  Anne’s work is well known in Wilmington as well as Richmond,VA where she lived for many years before returning home to Wilmington.  Anne had the idea of an art show to be held at the Kempton because as she said, “There is so much talent behind the doors of this building that others would love to see”, and she was right!  Anne’s daughter and family from France were there to support her and said they were so proud of her and thankful for the opportunity for Anne to show her art work.

Residents displayed cross stitch pieces, knitted sweaters, drawings of local churches, baskets, quilts, doll clothes, blankets, scarves, paintings and more. One resident said “We have some talented, classy people here at The Kempton” and another said “Hooray for the Kempton.”  Residents are already asking when the next show will be and we have also decided to include the staff’s arts and crafts to be displayed right along with the residents’.
